Feast of the Osiris Tree
In the middle of the month of Kiahk every year, the ancient Egyptians celebrated the resurrection of Osiris.
It comes back to life in the form of a tree.
The myth of the struggle between good and evil is represented in Isis and Osiris.
Osiris was a symbol of goodness and fertility, and he had married Isis
While her sister, Nephthys, married Set, a symbol of evil and violence, she was sterile and did not give birth.
So jealousy arose in the soul of “Sit” from his brother “Osiris”, and he wanted to plot with him, so he plotted a plot to assassinate him. The coffin will be according to its size, and thus all those present tried to enter the coffin until it was the turn of Osiris. As soon as he lay in the coffin, Set closed the lid on it, then threw it into the Nile River.
But Isis kept searching for the body and the coffin of her husband. She followed the river whose water brought her to the waters of the Mediterranean to the shores of Lebanon. She found the body of her husband contained by the large tamarisk tree with its huge leaves.
But the Queen of Lebanon liked the tree, so she ordered it to be cut down and brought to decorate the palace.
So Isis deceived her until she returned her husband’s corpse to Egypt inside the tree, so goodness returned with her, and the dry crops grew and withered roses bloomed.
The legend says that Osiris was led back to life, and Isis gave birth to their son, Horus, and then died again, and with him, plants and roses sprouted.
The Egyptian kings used to celebrate this day in the temple of King Ramses III in the city of Habu. The celebrations of “Osiris of the Tree” took place on the 15th of the month of Kiahk, which corresponds to the 24th of December.
Every year, the Egyptians celebrated in Abydos the festival of the Osiris tree in front of his temple, so they brought the greenest trees to erect and plant them in the middle of the square.
