The lucky Goat
A goat leads the Abdul Rasoul family to the greatest archaeological discovery in the nineteenth century !!
The Deir el-Bahari cache was considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of 1881, whose grandeur after that date is matched only by the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb.
And the story of the discovery of the cache begins ten years ago from this date, specifically in the year 1871 AD .. when Ahmed and Muhammad Abdul Rasoul were talking while they were sitting on a stone in Deir al-Bahari. And near them, some goats were looking for something to eat inside the ground, and suddenly one went away. From the goats to graze, the goats moved away more and more .. so Ahmed rose to follow them. So the goats were afraid and headed towards the rocks, and in the end, they disappeared .. and when Ahmed reached the place where they disappeared, he found a hollow in the ground. And he quickly attracted his attention to the entrance to the well, so he leaned over it, so he haunted the presence of a well In this place and what that means. So he ran down and told his brother Muhammad what he had seen. The two brothers approached the well, carrying two lamps and a rope with them as night had fallen over the place. Muhammad threw one end of the rope to Ahmed, who tied him to a rock, so Muhammad at the same time tied him around his waist … and Muhammad began to descend into the well under the light of the lamp that his brother was carrying, who remained close to the top. Ahmed shouted that the well was bottomless (about 10 meters). Muhammad responded to him, hey, he still lives, so Muhammad asked him to speed up the lengthening of the rope to come down with fear Great an unknown place .. when iam Six legs, the bottom of the well, he found goats. Still, he also found an entrance to a corridor carved into the rock unadorned and began to descend. And suddenly he collided with something that, thanks to the light of the torch of the lamp, turned out to be a white and yellow coffin .. Near him, he found a second coffin, then a third, and near this, The coffins that were lined up on the ground were their statues, shabti, bowls for preserving viscera, vases of bronze and some gold artefacts, Ahmed himself did not believe, as he discovered a great treasure like Ali Baba’s cave !!!.
The secret of the discovery of the cache in 1871 until the year 1881 was limited to its discovery in the vicinity of the Abdul Rasoul family for a period of ten years … as they extracted from it what was lost in weight and high in price, not interested and burdened with mummies .. since at that time they had no value except for what they covered with gold and stones. The cream …
But fate wanted her secret to be revealed .. Ahmed Abdel Rasoul used to sell the treasures of the cemetery and put them in sacks of rice in a secret hideout in the perfume shop, where Farouk the Egyptian bourgeois bought two vases or roses dating back to the Pharaonic era in a wonderful condition. Still, unfortunately for them, he was watching them and watching the hideout Kamal Musaid Cautiously Gaston Maspero, who later bought the two flowers from Farouk and showed them to the director of Egyptian antiquities, Gaston Maspero at the time, was impressed by their beauty and rare accuracy, which is likely to be of great kings, so Maspero only sent the Luxor Police chief an arrest warrant for Ahmed Abd The Messenger … and asked the Khedive to open an investigation into this matter.
But the investigation conducted by Maspero strictly led to a preliminary conclusion, which is testimonies in favour of the accused. So Ahmed was released temporarily .. but he intended to watch him, and this matter caused a quarrel between Ahmed and his brothers. Some of them wanted to hand them over, and some of them He refuses that, claiming that the danger is gone.
But in the end, the cache was discovered and handed over ten years after its discovery to the director of Egyptian antiquities, Gaston Maspero, who officially announced an exceptional discovery in a global speech that includes forty-four mummies dating back to the modern state, such as the mummy of Ahmose, the liberator of Egypt, Thutmose III, the Conqueror, Ramses II the Great and his father, Seti the First. ..
All the mummies were transferred to the Bulaq Museum at that time, but they are now in the Egyptian Museum …
Then, the family of Abd al-Rasool had also the credit for uncovering the tomb of Ramses II. Although they had refused the reward in tens of acres, they asked them to mint an English pound of gold and put the image of Abd al-Rasul like the Queen of Britain on it. And indeed, his work was minted in his name. There is a copy of it in the British Museum.
It is worth noting that Abd al-Rasoul’s discovery was filmed as a French production film that narrates the details of this amazing discovery.
