The Silver King – Psusennes the First
Twenty years after discovering the tomb of Tutankhamun, an archaeological mission led by the French scientist Pierre Montet was excavating in the north of the Delta in search of royal temples and mummies. The search resulted in discovering a temple in which the tomb of an Egyptian king was buried. More than 90 kilograms of pure silver, carved with high skill and decorated with lapis lazuli, more than the tomb of Tutankhamun.
As for a reason for choosing silver, the land of Egypt had natural resources for gold, which the ancient Egyptians considered the meat of the gods because of its resistance to rust and its luster that lasts forever like the gods. And he sang outrageously until he was able to get this large amount.
And working with silver is more difficult than working with gold, as the silver was poured into a mould, and then they smoothed it and carved his facial expressions, and this is a work that required hundreds of hours to be perfected.
Psusennes ruled in a dark period of Egypt’s life that lasted for 500 years, when competition for power existed, economic setbacks and civil wars, in addition to external threats…
Psusennes was the third ruler of the twenty-first dynasty, and he found in his tomb small carvings, precious minarets, precious stones and priceless treasures. The face of the king’s mummy was covered with a mask of pure gold, which exceeded the mask of Tutankhamun, which was made of glass and stones. As for this mask, it was made of pure gold.
The treasures found in the tomb of King Psusennes indicate the great status and the great luxury that he was living in, as he was a king and a high priest at the same time, which earned him very great wealth, as being a king receives taxes and receives temple gifts.
Scientists have proven that he was a king and a high priest through the carvings found in his temple and his tomb, where there are silver vessels called Petra carved with the symbol of the silver king, a star and a bird.
It was written on the plate (Perfect God Life. Lord of the Lands. High Priest of Amun. King of the Gods. Beloved of Amun).
He also found a bracelet for the hand inscribed on it (King of Upper and Lower Egypt. Lord of Power. Psusennes Habib Amun).
And inside a bracelet inscribed on it (The living is like the Lord, the sovereign of all pleasure. The Lord of happiness)
And Psusennes moved the capital, stone by stone, to Tanis, which scholars later proved to be the same legendary lost city built by Ramses II, the most powerful king of Egypt.
The rule of Psusennes was one of the longest reigns in Egypt, where he ruled for about 46 years and was a successful politician. And repel foreign invasions. And he built temples to the god Amun and several royal palaces.
Scientists were unable to examine his mummy accurately immediately after its discovery due to the outbreak of the world war and the departure of Montet from Egypt to France. Hence, the site was closed, and the treasure was handed over to the Cairo Museum and the rest of the king’s mummy in the records of the Egyptian University. Including due to the decomposition of the corpse in the wet environment of the delta, unlike the mummies of the Valley of the Kings, which were buried in a dry environment. However, an examination of his bones says that he was 166 cm tall. Strong. He suffered a fracture in the seventh vertebra of his neck, and it healed during his life. He died at the age of 80 when the average age was 35 years, and he suffered from rheumatic disease.
And up to the present time, this king has not found the appropriate appreciation, and some go to link him with the character of Haman, the minister of Pharaoh, in the story of our master Moses from the Holy Qur’an.
But so far, the history of this king has not been subject to research and scrutiny for unknown reasons.
