Crime and Punishment in Ancient Egypt

The police of ancient Egypt was the first police in the ancient world because the ancient Egyptians were the first to introduce this system to protect people and their property.
The ancient Egyptians used the Nile to move from one place to another, and they established the Water Police Department to guard and secure ships and boats from thieves. This was the main factor in establishing security and stability in ancient Egypt.
The ancient Egyptian police aimed to secure the desert and its roads and kill all thieves and bandits. These thieves were attacking the campaigns that were sent to the mines, among the duties of the police in ancient Egypt.
Like many other aspects of ancient Egyptian life, religion was ruled. It is considered living according to the laws that set it.
The ruler …. a way to please the gods. Likewise, a criminal act was seen as disobedience to the gods, and therefore the penalties were not taken lightly. The Egyptians sought to achieve two main goals when implementing their sanctions:  the punishment should serve as a deterrent (preventing others from committing the same crime).
And that in cases where the perpetrator is allowed to live, it must be as disgraceful as possible (as many believe that shame was worse than death)—an example of punishment that was both a deterrent and a shameful act that was imposed on deserters. Often ….. an entire family is imprisoned a terrible reputation is given to the entire clan. To rid their families of this shame, individuals were allowed to extricate themselves through brave action.
Here are some essential examples of law enforcement in ancient Egypt:

Minor offences resulted in 100 lashes.
While also required the perpetrator to work in mines and quarries.
Otherwise, escape attempts called for amputation of the ears and the nose.

Often the hands of corrupt officials are amputated.

Betrayal was dealt with by cutting the person’s tongue performing the act (so he could no longer reveal any secrets).

Crimes punishable by death can be executed by consuming crocodiles, or in the case of nobles, suicide.
